10th Anniversary build of our legendary Day One! Returning to its' muddy, knobbly-tyred off-road roots.
Bikes like have always existed, it's just they never had their own category as they do now (SSCX), so kudos to original designer, James Olsen for thinking outside the box back in 2006. For 2016 we've revisited the Day One's CX-inspired beginnings, putting together a bike more suited to off-road.
The 38x17T gearing provides the perfect singlespeed off-road gearing when paired with the high-volume Clement X'Plor MSO 40c tyres (61.5GI) and outback you'll find a hardy dedicated singlespeed cassette freehub (no clunky screw-on freewheels here).
Whether you're mixing it up between tarmac and trail on the way to work, opening up new routes and exploring trail link-ups in winter, or simply enjoying the challenge of riding distilled to its purest form, the Day One is a constant in cycling and a boatload of fun to boot!
38/17T gearing (61.5GI) which should be the perfect offroad ratio for the majority of people - ensuring you'll not spin-out too easily on hardpack in summer and can keep spinning through the thick mud in winter.
TRP Spyre-C mechanical disc brakes utilize and clever and unique dual-piston action meaning we forgo the usual static slave pad/piston usually found with other mechanical disc brake. Improved pad/rotor clearance and therefore no rubbing and infinitely easier setup and less continual tweaking are the upshots. We've also combined them with Jagwire KEB-SL compressionless outer for optimum performance. The devil's in the detail!
AKA ‘Thor’s Hammer’ and pronounced ‘Myol-n(ee)r‘ (rolls off the tongue, eh?). Our double-butted, cold-drawn, seamless, Taiwanese chromoly tubeset also goes by the aliases of 4130, Cr-Mo and Chromo. It’s a like-for-like replacement for other, identical branded chromoly tubing and ultimately means a saving can be passed onto you via either a healthy price drop or a little more room for up-speccing elsewhere without sacrificing performance.
Our new handlebar is the bastard love child between a modern compact drop bar and a traditional randonneur handlebar of old. The acclaimed flared drops (8deg) and backswept tops (6deg) of a traditional rando bar but without the old-school backbreaking drop and reach to give a wider, more natural drop bar position for and increased comfort and control.
