This Equilibrium is designed to travel a little further, a little longer but without the weight penalty associated with a dedicated tourer.
So, why a triple? Well, the biggest and most obvious advantage over a double is the expanded range. Look at it as having a standard chainset with whole additional set of gears for steep, sustained riding with light loads. With the increased gear range also comes a more even spread of gears for nice smooth transitions and uninterrupted cadence/rhythm.
Fully equipped with well-proven, highly regarded kit from the likes of Tubus, Shutter Precision and Busch & Müller, the Equilibrium Decade will appeal as much to long-distance Audax riders as it will folk looking for an efficient, comfortable and practical everyday bike.
A true rider’s bike which reveals more of its well-balanced character the longer you stay in the saddle.
Classic seamless Chromoly (as above) but heat-treated to boost tensile strength. Think of it as Chromoly on steroids. It’s heated to around 1600F whereby a structural change in the steels’ crystal lattice occurs (a stronger, more uniform orientation). As it’s stronger we can away with using less of it so thinner butts are the order of the day here, helping to achieve a lighter overall frame weight, without compromising strength.
The 'Paris Roubaix' part should be a dead giveaway as to the type of riding these high-volume, lightweight (~240g) 27c tyres are aimed at - fast and comfortable over rough surfaces. AKA ideal for the majority of the UK's roads!
TRP's revolutionary Hy/Rd brakes combine traditional cable actuation with hydraulic power to great effect, allowing you to enjoy all the benefits associated with hydraulic braking (good power and modulation, self centring pads, minimal maintenance) without the expensive dedicated hydraulic shifter setup. We've also combined them with Jagwire KEB-SL compressionless outer for optimum performance. The devil's in the detail!
With the UK's infamous weather in mind we've opted for the 'CX' version of Fulcrum's new Racing Sport DB wheelset - getting the upgraded 'double gasket' hub seals for more time spent riding and less maintaining! The wheels also utilise Fulcrum’s new C17 new-school wider rim profile (23mm OD/17mm ID) and weigh in at a very competitive 1892g per pair. Not too shabby!
