Louise Hanley secures 3rd at Xterra World Championships!

The Xterra World Championships in Molveno, Italy, delivered an exhilarating weekend of racing in a breathtaking setting. This idyllic location provided the ideal backdrop for a challenging triathlon event, where athletes from around the world gathered to compete in the warm and inclusive atmosphere fostered by the Xterra Planet "family."

Louise shares her experience of the event with us:

"Despite the initial concerns brought about by torrential rain the day before the race, race day itself greeted us with brilliant sunshine. The 1500-meter swim, featuring a beach start and an Australian exit, kicked off the competition. I emerged from the water leading my age group and securing the 11th position overall, setting a strong foundation for the challenges ahead.

The bike course was a demanding two-lap journey encompassing 500 meters of ascent per lap. Each lap presented its share of slogs, including muddy sections and treacherous roots. However, the reward was a thrilling and speedy descent into the race village, complete with various obstacles for spectators to enjoy.

As I transitioned to the run, I knew this leg would be particularly challenging for me. The off-road, single-track course comprised two laps, demanding technical prowess and agility to stay upright. Despite losing a couple of positions during this segment, I was elated to secure a spot on the podium. My initial goal had been to savor every moment of this incredible experience and aim for a top-10 finish, so achieving 3rd place in the 50-54 age group, as well as becoming the 4th highest-ranking woman from Great Britain overall, exceeded my expectations!"

The Xterra World Championships not only showcased remarkable athletic prowess but also celebrated the spirit of camaraderie and competition that defines the Xterra Planet community.
