Mechanical Rim Brakes

Cycle rim brakes are a traditional and widely used braking system that apply friction directly to the wheel rim to slow or stop the bicycle. Common types include caliper brakes, cantilever brakes, and V-brakes, each suited to different riding styles. Rim brakes are lightweight, simple in design, and easy to maintain, making them popular on road bikes, hybrids, and entry-level cycles. They provide strong braking performance in dry conditions and are generally more affordable than disc brakes. However, their effectiveness can decrease in wet or muddy conditions, and rim wear is a consideration over time.
