Raleigh Hybrid & City Electric Bikes FAQs

What is a hybrid bike?

A hybrid bike is a versatile, do-it-all bicycle that blends elements of road and mountain bikes, making it ideal for commuting, fitness riding and casual adventures. It usually has a flat handlebar for a more upright, comfortable position, a lightweight frame, and wheels designed to roll efficiently on roads while still being capable of handling light off-road surfaces.

How do electric bike batteries work?

An electric bike battery supplies power to the motor, giving you an assist when you pedal (up to 250 watts and a maximum assisted speed of 15.5 mph). Most e-bikes use lithium-ion batteries because they’re lightweight, long-lasting and can handle many charge cycles without losing performance.

Battery performance is influenced by three key measurements:

  • Volts (V): relate to speed potential – higher voltage can deliver power faster.
  • Amps (A): measure the current, or how much power the battery can provide.
  • Watts (W): the true measure of power, calculated by volts × amps.

You’ll also see amp hours (Ah) and watt hours (Wh) used to describe capacity. These tell you how much energy your battery can deliver over time, which helps estimate how far you can ride and how much assistance you can expect. Riders tackling steep climbs or long distances may prefer a higher-capacity battery, while lighter use may require less.
